The program provides a systematic structure of highly academic and integrated courses in the humanities and social sciences that are aimed at training students to obtain a professional level of analytical competence, become academically flexible, and exercise practical judgment in coping with a wide range of problems and issues that confront us in our ever-changing world. The doctoral program aims to create new research fields and approaches that take advantage of Okinawa’s geographic, historical, and cultural backgrounds. By placing Okinawa/the Ryukyus in a global context, the program aims to train professionals and researchers capable of analyzing local and regional issues from multiple points of view.
