Upon the request of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), starting in 2005, the university held training in the Republic of Tajikistan for six years, called the Maternal and Child Health Support Project for the Republic of Tajikistan. Each year, six to eight trainees in the maternal and child health area would be accepted for approximately two months. They attended lectures at IPNU, and trained at health and welfare institutions in Kahoku City and midwife clinics. In addition, since 2007, as part of the “Elderly Welfare Care System and Human Resource Training” Japanese Descendant trainees in South America project, each year, two to four trainees are accepted for approximately two months with the cooperation of the Hakui City Social Welfare Council. They attend lectures at IPNU, lectures held by the Hakui City Social Welfare Council, and training at related institutions. The objective is to learn about the systems being used to cope with the problem of aging in South American Japanese immigrant communities such as in Paraguay. In 2016, IPNU accepted trainees from Cambodia for the first time, therefore contributing to the education of individuals who will, as future leaders, take on the role of problem-solving in the field of community health medicine.
