In the Department of Robotic Science and Technology, in addition to basic subjects for learning programming, control, and dynamics, our students study specialized subjects, such as motion robotics and computer robotics, to become genuine "robot engineers" who can play an active role in society. About the Department of Robotic Science and Technology In order to answer confidently that “I’m a robot engineer,” when asked “What is your job?,” you will need to extend/expand your knowledge and skills in robotics science and engineering acquired in your undergraduate education.Robotics science and engineering, in particular, is an academic discipline that is at the forefront of the dramatically changing society of the future, and robot engineers who are constantly aware of the mission assigned to the discipline are highly sought after. Therefore, in addition to basic courses in programming, control, and dynamics, students in the Department of Robotic Science and Technology study specialized courses in motion robotics, computer robotics, and systems robotics. In special research, each student conducts research on a specific theme on robotic science and technology based on in-depth knowledge. As such, we produce genuine “robot engineers” who can play an active and uniquely valuable role in society. Majors Motion Robotics The robot drive system is an important element for driving sources of electrical actuators. In addition, it is strongly related to mechanisms and control systems of robots. To design and develop a superior robot, it is important to have an integrated viewpoint that includes robot motion planning. In the field of motion robotics, we use education and research focusing on robot drive and control systems to realize human-friendly robots that efficiently accomplish given tasks and contribute to solving social problems and improving industrial efficiency. Computer Robotics Artificial intelligence is the brain of the robot and will be very important for future robotics. In addition, digital cameras are the eyes of the robot, and with the development of deep learning, they have become of great practical significance. These technologies would not be possible without the use of computers, which are important in forming the foundation of robotics.Through research and development of robots that incorporate artificial intelligence, image processing with digital cameras, and other computer technologies, we promote education and research that will contribute to the development of future robot technology required by society. Systems Robotics A robot is a machine in which various elements are integrated. In robot applications and system development, it is necessary to focus not only on elemental technologies, but also on things such as performance evaluation and fitness for purpose as an integrated system. In the field of systems robotics, education and research is conducted with the aim of achieving a harmonious relationship between humans and robots through research and development that considers the optimal design of robot applications and systems, as well as the relationship between robots and their users, and between robots and society.
