In addition to these courses, the Master’s program offers courses suited to the educational requirements for Certified Nurse Specialist (CNS) qualifications in the fields of community health nursing, pediatric nursing, oncology nursing, and gerontological nursing. The basic course provides a broad overview and covers extensive knowledge that constitutes a standard academic basis for further graduate studies, while promoting humane nursing and nurturing capabilities at the same time. Students are expected to successfully complete a Master’s graduate thesis.Students are given extensive guidance by faculty staff in one of these areas, based on their field of specialization. The Doctoral program encourages students to conduct research work with originality and scientific significance, in which, for example, a specific nursing care program is scientifically evaluated. Master’s Program Nursing Design Students learn the basic theories and methodologies behind academic approaches that range from designing, to proving the efficacy of, tools and facilities, a caring environment, and nursing methods, so that local residents who receive care, as well as their caregivers, may enjoy renewed vitality through effective support. Students also acquire research capabilities to design more effective nursing practices. Community Health Courses are built around lectures, seminars, and practicums targeted at community health nursing, community mental health nursing, and health science. Students learn the theories and methodology to deliver  care services to assist care recipients in their daily lives in the community. Students are expected to acquire skills, such as how to provide comprehensive healthcare services, to develop community care systems. Nursing Administration In this program, students learn how to develop solutions to any administrative problems that could happen in nursing, and how to adapt high-quality nursing to rapidly changing medical systems and patient needs. Our goal is to prepare nurses with the leadership and management skills necessary to accomplish the goals of a nursing team. Courses and practicums required for eligibility for the Certified Nursing Administrator (CNA) examination are included in this program. Women’s Health Students acquire professional knowledge and research methodology on women’s holistic healthcare, focusing on the distinct stages of their lives, including adolescence, the reproductive period, and menopause. Students gain extensive knowledge and high-quality midwifery care skills for safe delivery and breastfeeding, and for addressing women’s gynecological needs. Students also study women’s health support systems in the community. Child and Family Health Nursing The program meets Certified Nurse Specialist (CNS) requirements, and provides lectures and practicums enabling students to acquire essential knowledge and skills for the mental and physical care of children and their parents. In addition to pediatric nursing, the knowledge and skills include fundamental theories in the field and a comprehensive understanding of healthy childhood development, as well as causes and prevention of derangements. In particular, the program produces personnel capable of extending professional care and education to abused children, as well as counseling support and education for  parents who need help with child-rearing anxiety or compulsive child abuse. Students also develop skills to help prevent these contemporary problems in collaboration with other disciplines. Adult Nursing This area of nursing focuses on the nursing of patients who suffer from cancer or other chronic diseases and dysfunctions, as well as their families. Students learn the theory needed to understand patients and their families, and acquire professional knowledge concerning the pathophysiology of cancer and other chronic diseases. Students also study methods such as continued or palliative care of patients and their families. Gerontological Nursing Students further their understanding of the elderly and master activities based on highly sophisticated knowledge and judgment, founded on the concept of “successful aging.” Students also master the practice and research abilities that will help contribute to the development of self-care capabilities in the elderly, and improved quality of life for these patients and their families. Home Care Nursing Students focus on the care of babies through elderly patients undergoing treatment in their home environment, as they acquire the knowledge and theory to provide care to patients and their families with the goal of improving quality of life (QOL) and maintaining the lives they want to live. In addition, students also learn about in-home care systems and care management; the state of coordination and collaboration with health, medicine, and welfare-related roles; and continuous nursing care in the home. Based on these studies, we aim to equip students with nursing-related research abilities for improved quality in home nursing and home care. Doctorate Program Community Health and Nursing Design Science In this field, we aim to train nursing scientists who can design and develop care for individuals at any level ―care that stresses the totality of individuals living their lives. Studies in this field include the design of medical treatment environments and lifestyle equipment and facilities to improve patients vitality and support their lifestyles; the design of care programs; the design and management of environments for providing care; the social design of health, medical, and welfare systems for primary through tertiary prevention; and the design of underlying nursing theories. In order to effectively and scientifically progress with these aims, the focus must be placed on integrating the interdisciplinary approaches of human, social, and natural sciences with the greater specialization of nursing studies, and clarifying the essence of nursing-related phenomena and the principles underlying nursing practice. Practical Nursing Science In this field, we build on the field of the Master’s course of Practical Nursing which aims to train individuals in advanced research abilities and practical skills, with the goal of training nursing scientists who can construct a science of nursing that serves as the basis for specialized practical nursing suited to the characteristics of the patient and the environment. To that end, students explore nursing scientifically, by looking at complex health and societal issues that transcend the boundaries of health, medicine, and welfare, and by developing and testing care programs suited to the lifestyles of patients and their families, and to their living environments, from private homes to institution environments.
